Anarchist Anthropology

This class will be an exploration of what anthropology, the study of human culture, can add to the anarchist vision of a liberated society. In contrast to other academics, anthropologists look at all dimensions of humanity instead of just the aspects of the current dominating one. In the pursuit of eradicating systems of heirarchy it might be useful for anarchists to be aware of examples of people who have lived their entire lives without one or more of these systems.

As anthropologists largely end up studying non-civilised peoples, the anarcho-primitivists are those anarchists who have paid the most attention to what anthropology has found so special attention will be given to primitivist thought. Discussion will be based on weekly readings from various authors.
