Hamas, Hezbollah, and the P.L.O: Born Fighting! This course will be an introduction to the "secret" historical, social and political tendencies of the three largest armed non-state affiliated political groups in the Middle East in relation to western media perceptions. Hopefully, by the end of the course we will better understand these three political forces using a spectrum of media sources and decide for ourselves whether we support, reject or at least grasp their political role in relation to the West. Throughout the course we will discuss charged political terms such as terrorism, anti-imperialism, Islamist political movements, colonialism, anti-Zionism, and fascism in historical reference to these three groups, using media sources, Internet documentary videos, statements and documents from the leadership of these groups, political books, and academic articles. So hopefully we can all learn a thing or two about the confusing and often divisive Middle East and form our own opinions!
