Self Defense Workshop
Saturdays at 3:00pm
First Class will be held Sat., Feb. 10/07 at 9 Yorkshire St. N.
Description:
I am interested in sharing my knowledge of self-defense that I have
accumulated over the past 5plus years. I earned my black belt in
karate/jujitsu over 2 years ago. I have been certified in
CDT(compliance, direction, takedown), a liability-conscious system of
personal and third-party protection. I have also taught dozens of
"EZ-defense" seminars to elementary school children as well as high
school boys and girls. In addition, at my martial arts club, I was
responsible for teaching my own adult karate and childrens' karate
classes.
I'm interested in sharing and practicing self-defense techniques that
address a wide variety of self-defense senarios, including low-level and
high-level altercations. Most techniques are liability conscious in
that they are justified uses of non-deadly force, so that if taken to
court, victims will not be accused of using excessive force.
Most techniques are based on everyday movements (ie. turning a key,
knocking on a door, picking up a pencil) that have already been trained
into muscle memory and do not have to be repeated thousands of times(as
martial arts techniques need to be).
Techniques may progress from a beginning level of stun-and-run
progressing to stun-stay-takedown. Common scenarios ranging from being
pinned to the ground to being choked will be addressed as well as
statistically most common types of attacks.
Personal saftey is also an issue and so discussions can be held on what
to do to avoid an altercation before it begins, how predators may choose
their victims and so on.
Finally, for people who are interested, martial arts techniques may be
mixed in and combined with the above-stated techniques. I am also
willing to have other martial arts and self-defense minded people to
help run the class.
